MRA's Embarrass Themselves Again...And They Need to Stop

I didn't expect to write about the "men's rights" movement again so quickly after last week's post. But they're living up to their "hate site" designation and I have to step in to stop them.

I mentioned in a thread that I am working on my PhD in sociology (which is true). I wanted to make sure the MRAs could not identify me given the amount of vitriol that showed up in the comments. I said that I attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison (which is not true) to throw them off the trail.

Reddit's rules prohibit members from launching a campaign of harassment against the employers or educational institutions of other members. I assumed the "men's rights" activists would follow these rules,.

I was wrong.

A user posted contact information to the University's sociology department and urged other MRAs to complain about my actions. He said, "I just want vengeance."

The mods deleted some of his comments, and a few MRAs even called out the poster for his behavior.

Many others defended this harassment.

By the time I saw this, it had gone too far. A poster claiming to know someone high up in the University of Wisconsin-Madison's sociology department posted this email from his friend.

Let's be clear about what's happening. The MRAs are harassing the University of Wisconsin (which I do not attend) and in their blind rage, they have targeted someone who is not connected to this incident at all.

Their harassment and rage know no bounds. They advocate hitting women, they harass educational institutions, they try to get people thrown out of school. This is a movement unhinged.

I made the mistake of underestimating the MRAs before. That will not happen again.

Do your worst MRAs. Angry comments, lies, death threats. I'm ready for it all.

This isn't funny any more.

    2. You claimed to be a TA at the University of Wisconsin Madison. I have proof.

    3. I don't deny it Erik. I am a TA at my real school. I just said Wisconsin because I wanted to avoid exactly the kind of witch hunt that happened. MRAs are the ones who started contacting the school in violation of reddit's tos. You only have yourselves to blame

    4. To clarify, I thought redditer's would not violate the tos and start contacting the school. So I said I was a ta, and then named a fake school to protect my identity, figuring that the school would be shielded from any harassment.

When I saw that not only were redditers contacting the school, but also that a student might be in trouble, I stepped in to say I did not really go to Wisconsin-Madison. That is the extent of my involvement here.

    5. Informing a university or an employer about the unprofessional conduct of one of their employees is not harassment.

Accusing innocent people of misogyny for the lolz, repeatedly taunting them on the internet, lying and trying to defend your lies with nothing to base your allegations on in their private inboxes is harassment.

    6. I didn't accuse anyone of misogyny. I simply pointed it out. Look here http://manboobz.com/2012/04/03/mens-rights-redditors-defend-a-guy-who-says-he-punched-his-sperm-stealing-girlfriend/

These are not lies. They are actual comments from the people who make up your movement.

You have to try harder than that. There is no substance to your comment.

    7. Apparently pulling an April Fool's joke by lightly trolling some people on the internet is now "unprofessional conduct" worthy of reporting to an employer. How blown out of all proportion. You did very little but give them rope--they were -quite- happy to hang themselves with it, and it's that that' gotten them all of the trouble that came from this incident.

    8. Lol, I like how the guy who trolled a hate group online (on april fool's day, no less) is bitter, but not the hyper misogynist, bitter manchildren that are trying to fuck up someone's IRL life. Nah, those guys are perfectly well adjusted.

Protip to any "MRAs" reading this; being an activist in any meaningful way involves more than harassing people on the internet and posting blogs about how much you hate women. If you guys have such legitimate concerns, why don't you stop wasting so much time on people who play jokes on you?

Oh right, it's because the only thing the "Men's Rights Movement" amounts to is hateful posts on the internet and whining about how tough it is to be a straight white man in the US.

    9. Why are you so angry, Erik? You know, since you got angry, we don't have to listen to you. Stop being so emotional.

    10. I think that you probably do attend that school, and given the way you wield your educational background to excuse this trolling, I'm not surprised they're interested in your public conduct.

Instead of seeing you engage in dispassionate discourse on a topic related to your profession, your employers get to see you spew absolutist vitriol and act like a child. You did this to yourself.

Throughout the comments here, http://theageofeschatology.blogspot.com/2012/04/mens-rights-activists-its-ok-to-hit.html, you frequently refer to your "methodology" as though you do, in fact, have some academic motive for this behavior or that you background somehow justifies it.

You can complain appeal to the rules of the website you subvert all you want.

You can't really call it "light trolling" when the author himself is loudly proclaiming how outrageous it all is.

    12. Why do you think I really go to Madison? Furthermore, given that you think I do go to Madison, what are you going to do about that?

  2. You are a coward, first you initiated a false-flag attack, and then you allowed someone else to take the hit for your, you should be ashamed.

    1. The only reason I mentioned Wisconsin-Madison was because I thought reddit's TOS would stop people from actually contacting the school. If I had known you guys would break the rules and start contacting everyone, I wouldn't have named the school

    2. What is the kind of shitty logic that has to go through your head, to read about a group of people attempting to attack someone's personal life/schooling just because of some disagreements with their opinions, and to have the first thing to come to mind be "you are a coward", instead of "there's something wrong with the people making these attacks"?

No, really, what's so "cowardly" about not posting your real personal information for - apparently completely legitimate - fears of unsolicited personal attacks?

"Allowing someone else to take the hit"? How about you people stop attacking people in the first place, and then no one has to "take the hit" at all.

    3. Funny Anon. Aren't MRAs the ones who blackmail and dox people who disagree with them?

  3. You should be ashamed of yourself. Not sure how anybody can blatantly lie to themselves, and others, to the extent that you have and continue to.

  4. You certainly are bitter. You also completely mis-represent the men's rights movement.

    2. How has this poster misrepresent the MRM? He posed a question; rather than say: Dude, if you hit a woman that hard you need to call a lawyer, the redditors said, "you didn't do anything wrong, and this is how to get away with it."

Make no mistake, as presented the story was either false, or serious injury had been done. Abdominal bruising is non-trivial and usually requires an object, or motor-vehicle to induce.

The "threat" of the "spermburgling" was minimal. Sperm viability starts to degrade at ten minutes outside a body (be it the seminal vesicle or a vagina/uterus/fallopian tubes), so it's almost impossible to get sperm from a condom and then inseminate someone. It is impossible, in the described situation.

But no one looked that up. They went balls to the wall with, "it was self-defense".

Then he reported it. If telling people what your "movement" says is "misrepresenting" it, then it can't be honestly represented.

    4. You do realize I don't go to Madison? If that email was real, it means someone unrelated to this incident is getting in trouble. That's why I wrote this post. So an innocent person didn't get hurt.

  9. You scumbuckets defending the MRAs who called for this harassment are ridiculous. How about you guys stop trying to dox people? Doxxing people only proves you are a hate group, just like the SPLC says. You don't have any credibility to ruin, honestly.

  10. Why do they have such utter beardrage over what was clearly an April Fool's Prank? Do they not have a sense of humor? ;)

  11. That's messed up. They REALLY don't like you. It makes me worry for anyone else who criticizes their movement, as not everyone has the luxury of doing so behind pseudonyms.

  12. Oh god, how disgusting of them. I suspect that email was faked, but if it's real, I hope the student at UW-M doesn't actually get in trouble for this.

I thought it was an amusing prank. I can't believe the response you're getting, though.
